Former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), obtaining their membership cards at the party’s national headquarters on Sunday evening.
The duo were received by Senator Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the party, who welcomed them into what he described as a progressive political platform.
“I want to welcome you to the party that doesn’t know what is called status quo ante bellum,” Dickson said during the event.
Speaking shortly after his defection, Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, appealed to party members to avoid internal disputes that could lead to legal battles.
“Please let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We want to build a party; we are not lawyers,” he said.
Their move to the NDC is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections, as both leaders command significant followings across the country.
