BREAKING: NLC Threatens Nationwide Shutdown if Ajaero is Detained Over Alleged Terrorism Financing

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have threatened to shut down the entire country if their president, Joe Ajaero, is detained by the police over allegations of terrorism financing.

These accusations surfaced in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place from August 1 to August 10, 2024.

The organized labour issued this warning on Thursday at the Labour House in Abuja, where leaders from various affiliate unions gathered early in the morning to show solidarity with Ajaero.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), Ajaero later headed to the office of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the now-disbanded SARS facility in Guzape. They departed from the NLC Headquarters around 10:00 am.

The union members have accused President Bola Tinubu’s government of making baseless accusations against the NLC, claiming the government is focusing on the wrong issues by accusing the labour union of funding terrorism.

Labour leaders have made it clear that if Ajaero is detained, they will initiate a nationwide shutdown.
