BREAKING: Nine Family Members, Two-Month-Old Baby Killed in Fresh Plateau Attack

—

At least nine members of the same family, including a two-month-old infant, were reportedly killed after suspected Fulani militias launched a deadly midnight attack on Kum community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Residents said the gunmen stormed the community at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, firing indiscriminately and unleashing terror for more than an hour.

The village head of Kum was also critically injured during the attack.

A resident, Precious Tok, revealed that the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, opening fire before moving from house to house, killing residents.

“The gunmen came in large numbers, shooting everywhere. We could hear screams from the houses. They entered homes and slaughtered people. It was one of the deadliest attacks we have seen here in recent times,” Tok said.

He revealed that an entire family was wiped out in the assault.

“Nine people in one house were from the same family. Even a two-month-old baby was not spared. We fled into the bush for safety and only returned this morning to find their bodies,” he added.

Another resident, who requested anonymity, described the aftermath as heartbreaking, saying the community had once again been forced to bury its loved ones after yet another night of bloodshed.

“We buried our children with our own hands again. This is too much. Government should come and help us. Every time they attack at night and by morning people are dead. We are tired of running,” the resident lamented.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYM), Riyom District, Comrade Vincent Caleb Alamba, said the attackers struck under the cover of darkness, leaving death and devastation in their wake.
