A young Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. A.M. Yarima recently involved in a confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday evening.
Sources said unidentified men in two unmarked black Hilux vans trailed him from a filling station along the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way around 6:30 p.m. Yarima detected the surveillance and managed to evade the suspects through a strategic maneuver. The incident is now under serious military investigation.
The development follows Yarima’s widely publicised clash with Wike over a disputed land site in Gaduwa, an encounter that sparked national debate and forced the Presidency to halt the demolition.
Veterans have strongly defended Yarima, condemning Wike’s verbal outburst and warning against any disciplinary action. The Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru, has also assured that no officer acting lawfully will be punished
