Troops of 25 Brigade have foiled an attempted attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists targeting a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) checkpoint near the Aburi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to military sources, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the area through the Timbuktu Triangle axis using both footpaths and motorcycles. However, troops deployed in an ambush position intercepted the insurgents, forcing them to abandon the attack.
During the exchange, one civilian was reportedly injured by a stray bullet and was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, security forces have intensified patrols and surveillance operations across the area to prevent further attacks and maintain security around the IDP camp and surrounding communities.
The latest operation underscores ongoing efforts by the military to counter terrorist activities and protect vulnerable populations in Borno State.
