The Nigerian Senate has taken a bold stance against the rising tide of abductions, passing a resolution to classify kidnapping as a form of terrorism.
Lawmakers are calling for amendments to the Terrorism Act to ensure the harshest punishment is applied.
During Wednesday’s plenary, senators agreed that anyone convicted of kidnapping should automatically face the death penalty once the law is revised.
“The resolution mandates that, upon conviction for kidnapping, the death penalty must be enforced,” the Senate declared, emphasizing that the move is aimed at sending a strong warning to criminals and curbing the growing menace.
