Four members of the same family have been confirmed dead after a three-storey building collapsed at Popo Giwa in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026.
The building reportedly came crashing down in the early hours of Tuesday, trapping eight members of the family under the rubble.
Emergency responders, however, managed to rescue four of the eight trapped victims alive as frantic rescue efforts continued at the scene.
Residents said the father of the family was a serving soldier, while his wife worked as a casual staff member at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin.
One of the rescued victims, a child identified as Firdaus, the second-to-last child of the family, was pulled out alive as emergency responders intensified efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victims.
Four others have unfortunately been confirmed dead in the tragic incident.
The rescue operation remains ongoing as emergency agencies and residents continue to search through the debris for possible survivors.
