Suspected gunmen, believed to have arrived in a tricycle popularly known as a Keke Napep, launched a brazen attack on residents of Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, opening fire indiscriminately and throwing the community into chaos.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants stormed the area at night, catching residents off guard as they moved through parts of the neighbourhood, shooting at close range.
The sudden eruption of gunfire triggered panic, with many fleeing for safety while others were caught in the line of fire.
The News Chronicle gathered that at least five people lost their lives in the attack, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Victims were said to have been rushed to nearby medical facilities as emergency response efforts unfolded.
As of press time, security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, the motive behind the attack remains unclear as heightening tension engulfed the area.
