BREAKING: Emefiele Granted Bail

—

Embattled former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele has just been granted bail by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

The judge said Emefiele is to submit his travel documents before the chief registrar of the court, until his re-arraignment.

Emefiele is to be released immediately to his lawyers, who have the responsibility of producing him in court next week.

Before the judgment today, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had earlier ordered that Emefiele who had been in the custody of Security agencies be released unconditionally or be brought to hear his application for bail.

After being held by security services for 151 days, Emefiele’s attorney, Mathew Burkaa, requested during the reopened hearing that his client be granted bail on liberal terms and in view of his fundamental human rights. He applied this to the 1999 Constitution’s Section 35 (4a and b) provisions.

Attorney General of the Federation’s Counsel, Onyi Koleosho, objected to the bail application, pointing out that Emefiele was not in the EFCC’s custody for up to two months until he was moved on October 26.

Emefiele is expected back in court next week Wednesday, November 15, 2023, according to the statement of his attorney, Mathew Burkaa.
