The Federal Government on Wednesday arraigned several individuals, including former Bayelsa governor Timipre Sylva, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court, Abuja, over an alleged coup plot against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to a 13-count charge bordering on treason, terrorism, and related offences. The court ordered their remand in Department of State Services custody and adjourned the case for trial.
The prosecution, led by Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, alleged the suspects conspired in 2025 to destabilise the government and failed to report intelligence on the planned act. Defence counsel requested access to the detained defendants to prepare their case.
