BREAKING: Coup Attempt Rocks Cotonou as Soldiers Attack President Talon’s Residence

Reports from Beninese media say a coup attempt is underway in Cotonou after soldiers allegedly attacked President Patrice Talon’s residence early Sunday. The operation is said to be led by Lt. Col. Pascal Tigri, who later appeared on national TV reportedly under military control declaring himself head of a “military re-establishment committee.”
The situation in Cotonou remains tense, with troop movements seen around key locations. The government has not issued an official response.
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of recent coups in West Africa, including military takeovers or attempts in Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, where political instability, security crises, and contested transitions continue to undermine democratic governance across the region.
