About 18 people have reportedly been killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists while fetching firewood in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
A resident of Marte, who confirmed the incident to The News Chronicle on Thursday night, said the victims were attacked while they were outside their community in search of firewood.
According to the resident, the victims had ventured into the surrounding area to gather firewood when they were allegedly attacked by the terrorists.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of residents who leave their communities to source firewood and other essential items in areas vulnerable to attacks.
Details surrounding the incident, including the exact location of the attack and the identities of the victims, were not immediately available.
Security agencies had yet to officially confirm the reported deaths or provide further details as of the time of filing this report.
