Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday night attacked Nigerian troops in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a Lieutenant Colonel and three other soldiers.
The attack reportedly occurred around 10:00 p.m. and lasted into the early hours of Friday.
Security sources identified the slain senior officer as Lieutenant Colonel S. I. Iliyasu.
Konduga is located about 30 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, which has been at the centre of the insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.
Details of the attack and possible casualties among the insurgents were still unclear as of the time of filing this report.
