BREAKING: Black Christmas as bandits claim the lives of 76 People in Plateau communities

Assailants reportedly attacked several communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, causing widespread destruction.

The attackers allegedly set fire to homes, looted farm produce, and damaged property. According to Monday Kasa, Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee of Bokkos Local Government Area, these organized attacks commenced on Saturday and extended until Christmas Eve, catching villagers in the midst of their celebratory mood.

The toll from these assaults is grim, with reports indicating that 76 people lost their lives. Kasa mentioned that the casualty count continues to rise as security personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters search for missing individuals ambushed during the attacks.

The assailants not only inflicted harm on lives but also left a trail of burnt residences and plundered agricultural yields.

Expressing concern over these unprovoked attacks, Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the acts and called for immediate action and heightened community vigilance.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang urged security authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.

In response to the escalating situation, the governor advised residents across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security personnel.

As rescue efforts persist in the affected towns, both the police department and the joint security task force Operation Safe Haven have yet to release official statements regarding the attacks.

The gravity of the situation underscores the need for comprehensive measures to address the security challenges faced by these communities.
