BREAKING: 200-L Student, Many Feared Dead As Gunmen Invade Plateau State University

Armed gunmen have attacked Chikam, a community in Bokkos Local government Area of Plateau state.

The attack which occurred on Thursday 18 April led to the death of a 200-level student in the department of Computer Science at the plateau state University, Bokkos identified as Dading James Jordan.

This was confirmed in a statement singed by the Registrar of the institution, Yakubu F. Ayuba and made available to newsmen on Friday 19 April.

The statement also directed that the ongoing semester examinations scheduled for Friday 19th and Saturday 20th April be cancelled as such days have been declared to mourn the deceased student.

While calling on students to remain calm and law abiding, the Registrar equally urged the security agencies in the area to scale up security measures in order to secure the lives of staff and students of the state owned University.

Sources say, many residents of the area were feared dead in the attack, leaving many scampering for safety.

The latest attack on Chikam, a neighboring community to the Plateau state University is coming days after a community in the LGA was raided by gunmen leaving many persons dead.

As of press time, a call to the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, to confirm the number of casualties in the sad incident was turned down.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has condemned the development and appealed for calm as security agencies are working to restore normalcy.

He reassured citizens, particularly students, of the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding their lives and property, urged them to remain composed in the face of the tragedy, as the government is determined to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts.

Mutfwang in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere stressed the importance of collaboration among the University Management, students, community leaders, and security agencies for enhanced security and the safety of everyone in the area and extended his “heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased student and all those affected by the incidents” praying for the swift recovery of the injured.
