To accelerate the ongoing verification process for flood relief distribution, the Borno State Flood Relief Distribution Committee enlisted the help of fifty members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday.
These corps members are being trained to assist with the verification procedures necessary for distributing relief to those affected by the floods in the state.
The training sessions were officially launched to equip the corps members with the necessary skills and knowledge for the assignment.
This initiative was spearheaded by the Chairman of the Committee, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujbawu, who emphasized the significance of their role and the high expectations surrounding the task.
While addressing the newly selected corps members during the flag-off ceremony, Engr. Gujbawu highlighted the importance of dedication, commitment, and professional conduct.
He stressed that under the mandate of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, the Committee was determined to carry out its duties with thoroughness and integrity within the designated timeframe.
“I urge you to take this assignment very seriously. You were selected based on merit, and we expect credible work from you. Anything short of that will not be acceptable,” Engr. Gujbawu said.
Professor Ibrahim Umara, the co-chair of the committee, also spoke during one of the training sessions.
He described the verification task as both a humanitarian and challenging endeavor, calling on the corps members to be diligent in their work.
He further advised them to resist any form of bribery or inducement, assuring the participants that robust security measures were in place to ensure their safety throughout the process.
Professor Umara explained that the Committee still had more than fifteen wards to cover in Maiduguri and surrounding areas, which necessitated the recruitment of additional personnel to help expedite the verification process without compromising the quality of the work.
“We have many wards in Maiduguri such as Gamboru, Bulabulin, Gwange 2, Gwange 3, as well as Fori, Galtimari, Old Maiduguri, and other affected areas. So, we need the corps members who are already mobilized to help fast-track the process,” Umara stated.
During the training, the corps members sought clarification on various issues, including how to handle cases involving tenants and landlords, managing multiple households in the same building, and determining the categories of destruction. These clarifications were essential to ensure a smooth and fair verification process.
With the corps members now fully engaged in the verification effort, the Committee aims to complete the process as swiftly as possible while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and fairness in the distribution of flood relief to the affected communities.
