Borno Police Restrict Keke Movement, Deploy Tight Security for Eid-el-Fitr

—

The Borno State Police Command has announced a restriction on the movement of tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, as part of enhanced security measures for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

In a press release obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday, the Command extended greetings to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, while assuring residents of adequate security arrangements across the state.

According to the statement, the movement of tricycles will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on March 20, 2026. The police said the directive is aimed at strengthening security coordination, improving crowd control, and preventing potential threats during the festivities.

Worshippers were also advised to observe Eid prayers at designated grounds closest to their homes to reduce movement and avoid overcrowding.

The Command disclosed that personnel have been deployed in collaboration with other security agencies to strategic locations, including prayer grounds, markets, and motor parks, to ensure safety, traffic management, and surveillance.

Additionally, operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit have been stationed at major venues to screen individuals and items entering gathering points.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed all commanders and operatives to intensify patrols, intelligence gathering, and visibility policing throughout the festive period, while maintaining professionalism and respect for human rights.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report any suspicious activities, while parents were advised to keep close watch over their children in crowded areas.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order before, during, and after the Eid celebrations.
