A police officer in Borno State, Mohammad Muhammad, has been widely commended for returning N2.6 million that was mistakenly transferred into his bank account.
The commendation followed a Facebook post by Bello Jafar, who praised the officer for demonstrating rare honesty and integrity.
According to Jafar, Muhammad, a customer of United Bank for Africa (UBA), received the money in error from a Moniepoint customer but immediately took steps to ensure it was returned to the rightful owner.
Rather than ignoring the unexpected credit, the officer reportedly made efforts to trace the source of the transfer and coordinated with the relevant institutions to facilitate a full refund.
Describing the action as exemplary, Jafar said it reflected strong moral values, professional discipline, and the true ideals expected of a police officer, noting that such conduct helps to strengthen public trust in law enforcement.
The Borno State Police Command also acknowledged the gesture. A transaction receipt confirming the refund of N2,618,720 was shared by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, with a caption commending the officer for his honesty.
The commendation comes amid ongoing efforts by the Borno State Police Command to promote professionalism and ethical conduct, including recent training programmes for officers across divisional headquarters in Maiduguri
