Borno govt and NGO instruct journalists on child protection law

The Borno State government, along with a non-profit organization called ‘I Concept Dot Net,’ is working together to educate people about the child protection law. They want to make sure everyone in the state understands this law and follows it.

At a meeting held at the Unimaid Conference Centre in Maiduguri, the commissioner of justice, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, explained that Borno State has passed more than 30 laws to protect children.

The goal of the meeting was to talk to journalists about how they can help spread the word about these laws to everyone in the state.

Abubakar said that journalists have the power to share information about the child protection law through news stories and programs.

This can help fight against things like child labor, sexual abuse, and violence against children.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Garba Chibok, also spoke at the meeting. He said that it’s important for the media to educate people about the law so that children can have access to things like education, healthcare, and protection from harm.

Professor Nassir Abba’aji, who organized the meeting, pointed out that journalists have a responsibility to inform people about important issues like child protection.

He said that journalists can help by investigating cases of child abuse and reporting on them. This can lead to positive changes in society.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Borno State Council, Comrade Dauda Iliya, agreed that journalists have a role to play in protecting children.

He said that journalists will focus more on reporting about the welfare and needs of children.

They will also work with the government, NGOs, and other groups to help improve the lives of children in Borno State.
