Borno Deputy Governor Signs N892.45bn 2026 Appropriation Bill into Law

The Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of N892.448 billion for the state.

The assent ceremony took place at the Acting Governor’s Office in Maiduguri, the state capital on Tuesday.

The 2026 budget is designed to address Borno State’s most pressing needs, with a strong focus on sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare. It reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, improved service delivery, and post-insurgency recovery.

Governor Kadafur had earlier presented a N890.33 billion budget proposal to the Borno State House of Assembly, covering allocations to ministries, departments, and agencies, with priority given to education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Following detailed legislative scrutiny, the House approved an increase of about N2.37 billion, bringing the total budget size to N892.45 billion.

Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawan, said the additional funds were largely earmarked to strengthen the health and education sectors.

He noted that the adjustments would support the construction of a lecture theatre at the College of Nursing and the improvement of infrastructure at the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri.

The Speaker assured the legislature of the continued cooperation with the executive to ensure effective implementation of the budget and the delivery of meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Borno state.
