Borno CP Issues Strong Warning Against Torture, Human Rights Violations

—

The Borno State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in the discharge of its duties across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, made this known during a lecture at the Command’s Monday briefing held on May 4, 2026, at the Police Headquarters in Maiduguri.
The session was attended by Tactical Commanders, Heads of Departments, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).
Addressing senior officers, the CP issued a strong warning against torture, excessive use of force, and all forms of human rights abuse.
He stressed that such actions are unlawful, unprofessional, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He described misconduct by officers as a violation of policing standards, the rule of law, and the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that it erodes public trust and weakens efforts to strengthen police-community relations.
Abdulmajid further directed that all police operations must strictly comply with existing regulations, particularly the provisions of Force Order 237 on the use of force. He emphasized the need for restraint, professionalism, and respect for human dignity at all times.
The police boss warned that any officer found guilty of rights violations or unprofessional conduct would face decisive disciplinary action in accordance with the law.
He also encouraged members of the public to report misconduct through the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and other official channels, assuring that all complaints would be handled with seriousness and confidentiality.
The Command reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in Borno State.
