Borno cautions MDAs on spending, approves relocation of IDPs back home

The Borno State Government is warning its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) not to spend money outside of their allocated budgets.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum stated that anyone who breaks this rule will face consequences under the Civil Service Law.

Governor Zulum also mentioned that his administration has already helped 2.5 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return to their homes with dignity. They aim to help the remaining 1.5 million IDPs do the same by the end of the year.

This information was shared by Dr. Babagana Mallumbe, the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, during a press briefing about the 2024 Approved Budget.

The budget, named ‘Budget of Consolidation and Progress’, is worth N358,732,146,000.00 billion, with an adjustment of N18.1 billion.

The revised budget allocates over N208.4 billion to capital expenditure and N150.4 billion to recurrent expenditure.

Dr. Mallumbe expressed satisfaction with the previous year’s budget performance of over 74% and aims for over 80% performance in 2024.

The budget focuses on projects that benefit the people, such as healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and education.

It aims to build on the progress made in previous years, promoting good governance, accountability, and economic growth.

Dr. Mallumbe urged all stakeholders, especially heads of MDAs, to support the administration’s efforts for a better Borno.

He emphasized the importance of following budget rules and regulations, warning that those who don’t comply will face consequences. All spending requests must align with approved budget provisions.
