Prof. Adam Abba-Aji, a Nigerian medical doctor from Borno State, has made history in Canada after becoming the first African to serve as Chief Medical Officer of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
Prof. Abba-Aji, a graduate of the University of Maiduguri, brings about 20 years of medical experience in the Canadian healthcare system to the position.
His appointment marks a significant milestone for Alberta Hospital, which was founded in 1923 and has now reached its 99th year of history.
The Borno-born physician has built an accomplished career in Canada’s healthcare sector, earning recognition for his professional experience and contribution to medicine.
Prof. Abba-Aji is also the younger brother of former Senator representing Borno Central, Senator Mohammed Abba-Aji.
His appointment has been described as a notable achievement, particularly for an African professional taking up one of the hospital’s senior medical leadership positions after nearly a century of the institution’s existence.
