The Borno State House of Assembly has given approval to the 2024 budget, totaling over three hundred and fifty-eight point seven billion naira (N358.7b).
This marks an increase of eighteen point one billion (N18.1 billion) from the initially proposed sum of three hundred and forty point six billion naira.
The governor’s submission for confirmation led to this decision following the Committee of the Whole’s resolution.
Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan received an executive request for the confirmation of twenty special advisers and the establishment of the Borno State Great Green Wall and State Information Communication Technology Agency.
During the submission of the report, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Bukar Alibe Benishikh, stated that the committee engaged various ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure the inclusion of government’s provisional policies and programs in the 2024 budget.
The House’s leader, Dige Mohammed, and member representing Kala Balge, moved a motion for the House to dissolve into the Committee of Whole to consider the reports, seconded by Ibrahim Musa Inuwa Kubo, the member representing Shani.
The resolution of the Committee of Whole was announced by Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan.
The initial 2024 budget submitted by the governor was N357,331,546,996.00 billion.
The House deemed it necessary to increase it by N18,112,310,000 billion, making the final approved budget N358,733,146 billion for the year 2024.
The House’s leader proposed a motion for the adoption of the Committee of Whole’s resolution, seconded by Baba Mala Bukar Sunoma, the member representing Bama Central Constituency.
Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan directed the clerk to prepare six clean copies for the executive for assent.
Additionally, the Speaker read an executive request seeking confirmation of twenty additional special advisers.
The leader of the house proposed the adoption, seconded by Usman Lawan Moruma, the member representing Mobbar Constituency.
The bills for the establishment of Borno State Great Green Wall and State Information Communication Technology Agencies will be considered in subsequent sittings.
The House adjourned its sitting to January 30, 2024, citing the conduct of Local Government Elections, seconded by Abba Kyari Abba Kolo, the member representing Jere Constituency.
