Stakeholders at the Bolt-organized event in Lagos concurred that the theme was appropriate and in line with the current safety concerns in the ride-hailing industry.
To improve safety standards in Lagos, the event provided a forum for cooperation amongst drivers, business executives, legislators, law enforcement, and safety specialists.

Weyinmi Aghadiuno, senior public policy manager for West, North, and Central Africa, stated that road safety is a shared responsibility and that they are dedicated to promoting open communication, offering education, enhancing safety features, and cooperating with drivers and important regulatory bodies like the Ministry of Transport and FRSC to improve road safety in Lagos.
Road users’ understanding and adherence to road safety standards can be improved by working together with public and commercial entities, according to Acc Spence Olakojo, Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ojota command. He emphasized their dedication to advancing traffic safety, saying that by making sure that drivers are aware of the rules of the road and their rights, they are hoping to prevent collisions and save lives.
Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, Director of Transport Operations at the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, emphasized the importance of using technology to raise safety standards in the rapidly changing transportation industry.
He went on to discuss how the continuous Application Programming Interface integration with ride-hailing operators is a critical step in this direction towards ensuring efficient and effective monitoring of ride-hailing operations as well as increased security and efficiency in the transportation industry. He listened to drivers’ concerns about poor roads, street light maintenance, and locations where tankers cause traffic jams, and reassured them that the ministry would act quickly on their concerns.
Faruq Abbas, Managing Partner at Abdu-Salaam Abbas & Co., underlined the value of data privacy for riders and divers and suggested that issues should be directed through the app’s official channels rather than escalating to social media and jeopardizing privacy. He praises Bolt for enlightening and enabling its driver community on the value of data security.
The main safety requirements of drivers were emphasized by representatives of the Ladies on Wheel Association of Nigeria and the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria. They emphasized the need for rider verification and major improvements to road conditions, including the repair of road furniture. They claimed that these important improvements would greatly promote a safer atmosphere for both drivers and riders.
