—

Boko Haram terrorist group, is suspected to be behind a tragic ambush that occurred on Thursday, April 4 in Borno State.

This heinous attack took place along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road, a route that has unfortunately become synonymous with danger due to frequent deadly assaults in recent times.

Reports reveal that at least five military personnel lost their lives in this ambush, among the victims were a lieutenant officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other soldiers, whose identities have been kept confidential for the time being.

The incident reportedly occurred near Kamuya village, just a few kilometers away from Buratai, the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Retired).

Unconfirmed reports suggest that several of the attackers were also killed during the exchange of gunfire with the troops.

A security source, confirming the tragic event, disclosed that soldiers from the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai fell into the ambush while en-route to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, to purchase fuel.

The loss of one officer, along with a driver, a gunner, and four other escorts, underscores the perilous nature of the security situation in the region.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorist organizations like Boko Haram, whose activities continue to wreak havoc and claim innocent lives especially in Northeastern Nigeria.
