Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Military Base in Yobe

In the quiet early hours of the morning, Gujba town in Yobe State faced a terrifying attack believed to be carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

They targeted a military base, firing guns that rang through the streets, causing fear among the residents. People fled to nearby bushes for safety as the sounds of conflict filled the air.

One resident, Modu Bahna, shared his frightening experience, describing how the sudden gunfire made everyone run for their lives. Thankfully, no civilians were harmed as they sought refuge.

He said “Today at about 12:15am, suspected Boko Haram insurgents came to our town; we heard sporadic gunshots and ran into the bush for our lives.”

The attackers seemed to focus on military targets, ignoring civilian buildings and instead setting fire to military patrol vehicles at the base.

The attack shocked and saddened the community, with Bakura Mohamed expressing disbelief at the return of violence to an area longing for peace.

Despite the ordeal, Mohamed emphasized the community’s determination to stay in Gujba, urging authorities to increase security to protect lives and property.

“We will continue to stay in Gujba; we are not going anywhere. We want the government to bring more security personnel to the town for the protection of our lives and property”, he stated.

Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gujba acknowledged the assault, reporting the destruction of two security patrol vehicles and the tragic loss of a soldier’s life.

This attack follows a similar incident a month earlier when suspected Boko Haram insurgents abducted passengers along the Biu-Gujba-Maiduguri Road, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by the group in the region.

Such attacks leave communities fearful and uncertain, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive security measures to protect civilians and counter the threat of extremist groups.
