Kano’s political gladiator and kingmaker, former governor, minister, and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has clarified his position: he intends to secure the vice-presidential slot on an NDC ticket and run with Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
In the heat of partisanship and emotion, few people are reading this political communication carefully.
Recall that Kwankwaso has consistently said he is interested only in the presidency or the vice presidency. At one point, there was speculation that he might replace Vice President Kashim Shettima on the APC ticket.
His latest clarification reveals a deeper political move, one that only a shrewd, even unsung, strategist could conceive and execute quietly.
What it signals is a battle for 2031. Kwankwaso appears to be positioning himself to displace contenders like Kashim Shettima by building a formidable alliance with the Southeast. If that alliance holds, it would place him in a strong position to finally deliver the presidency to Kano, as he has long envisioned.
The strategy reflects gradual, patient planning that could pay off later.
If it works, Kwankwaso will likely inherit the block votes of the Obidient movement that is now being nurtured through the “OK” structure too harvest nationwide, especially in the Southeast, South-South, South-West, Middle Belt, and in Kano itself. In that scenario, there would be no such thing as “Oduduwa votes” as a bloc of solidarity for Kashim Shettima.😃
