Former Big Brother Naija housemate Bella Okagbue has spoken publicly for the first time about her breakup with fellow reality TV star Segun Olusemo, known as Sheggz, ending days of speculation following his confirmation of the split.
Okagbue posted her statement on her Instagram Story on Friday morning, three days after Olusemo confirmed on Tuesday that their relationship had ended. She said she had chosen to remain quiet while others discussed the relationship on her behalf.
“I stayed silent because I believed some things deserved to remain private, but my silence should never be mistaken for guilt,” she wrote.
Okagbue and Olusemo met and became a couple while on Big Brother Naija. In her statement, she said she had given the relationship a second chance because she believed people could change.
“I chose to give someone I loved a second chance because I believe people can grow and change. That was my choice, and I own it,” she wrote.
She added that belief in someone’s capacity to change did not require waiting indefinitely, and that the version of Olusemo known to the public differed from the one she experienced privately.
Addressing questions about marriage, Okagbue rejected the idea that wanting to marry someone she loved amounted to desperation.
“Knowing when not to marry them is discernment. Sometimes, it takes more courage to walk away than to stay,” she wrote.
She said an engagement ring could not resolve the problems that made the relationship unworkable, and described a pattern of unmet promises: “A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled.”
Okagbue said some accounts of the breakup circulating online did not match her experience, and that parts of her own account remain untold. “Those are mine to tell, when appropriate,” she wrote. She closed the statement saying she was choosing herself, regardless of the consequences.
Olusemo confirmed the breakup on Tuesday, saying the relationship had ended in January 2026. He said he had avoided public comment out of respect for his family but decided to speak after what he described as attempts to damage his reputation.
He denied allegations of infidelity and abuse. “I did not cheat on Bella, and I have been single since January 2026,” he said.
Olusemo said he had purchased an engagement ring because he believed in the relationship’s future, and that the two had attempted to reconcile after the initial breakup before he concluded that issues of trust made marriage impossible. He also said he had spent time in hospital in 2025, recovered in England, and returned to Nigeria in October 2025.

The statements followed reports of leaked WhatsApp messages, allegedly dated October 2023, in which Okagbue told Olusemo’s mother that he owed her N11,000,000 and had avoided discussing repayment. Neither Okagbue’s Friday statement nor Olusemo’s Tuesday statement addressed the alleged debt directly.
Unverified allegations of domestic violence have also circulated online since the breakup became public. Neither party’s statements confirm those claims.
