Before A Beautiful Bite

The elders advised: heed not the seed of greed. It’s suicidal.

Nine compound dogs fought fiercely over meat they had looted

from a neighboring village. Led by a dog whose name was Tsotsi,

they had invaded a homestead that had just slaughtered its old bull

the previous day, and seized every part of the animal they could lay

their predatory paws upon. Upon arriving back safely in the compound,

Tsotsi, whose name literally translates to Thief or Gangster, had seen it fit

to hog the entire body except for some insides. “As your successful, kind leader,

my share is simply the frame of the bull, the kidneys, the heart and the tongue, the rest

is yours, fellows. Feast with your friends and families”. Four dogs had no issues with it.

Two of them were Tsotsi’s trusted but notorious cronies and lackeys. The beneficiaries.

The other pair were his paid protectors. Yet the other four hounds were visibly displeased

and divergent. “Tsotsi, don’t play your silly, selfish game on us. Did you not assure us

that we’ll share everything equally?” They quizzed furiously. Tsotsi grinned, but his tone

had changed. “It’s fair, crybabies and irritants! It’s based on positions and on who played

what role. That’s all. My word is final! Stop barking like idiots!” The four objectors retorted.

“We are no fools. You’ve done this before! This time, we’re saying no, no, enough is enough.

We’ll sink our claws into the ground!” Sink them, they did. The thieves had two fragmentations.

A fierce fight was aflame until ten paroling dog police officers pitched up and arrested the mafia.
