Big Brother Naija winner Phyna has told Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday she will beat her when they meet in a boxing ring in Lagos on October 1, 2026.
Celebrity boxing organiser Balmoral Group announced the bout on Instagram on Friday, September 18. The event is titled “Chaos in the Ring” and takes place at the Federal Palace Hotel. DAZN and SuperSport will broadcast it. Nkechi also shared the promotional poster on her own Instagram page.
Phyna answered the same day in an Instagram video. “Nkechi, if I catch you. I promise you, e don be,” she said. In the caption, she wrote that she was glad she no longer had to waste her strength going back and forth with Nkechi online.
Nkechi replied in the comments under the video, stating sarcastically that Phyna had threatened her and she was shaking. In her own post about the fight, she told Phyna, “you don’t want to go this route with me,” and urged fans to bet on her to win.
The dispute started on Thursday, September 17 when Nkechi, 37, posted an Instagram video telling Phyna to stop fighting with people online. She said she was Phyna’s senior. “Nobody be your mate for this app,” she wrote in the caption.
Phyna replied the same day, calling Nkechi “grandmother” and “old woman” and asked if she was being bullied. Phyna said she had no friendship with Nkechi. According to her, the two had only discussed a movie role about two months ago. She said Nkechi messaged her in the morning, she replied in the evening, and Nkechi then cast another actress and became angry. Phyna also mentioned a separate talk about doing a stream together.
The boxing plan has its own history. On August 27, Phyna clashed with content creator Ashmusy over a proposed celebrity match. Phyna said she had worked with the organisers for months and had introduced Ashmusy to them. Ashmusy denied trying to sabotage Phyna. She said she asked for a different opponent because she saw Phyna as a friend and did not want to fight her.
Phyna won Big Brother Naija Season 7 in 2022 and has traded insults with several people online since then.
Reaction on X is divided. Some users welcomed the fight. One fan wrote, “I love this let’s have first female chaos in the ring.” Another fan said, “I go pay flight go watch this match if ei go hold.”
However, others doubted it will be a real contest, with one fan calling the fight a strategy, because the earlier plan involving Ashmusy fell through. Some X users have picked a side while others said the fight distracts from bigger matters.
It remains unclear whether the bout will follow professional rules.
