Bayelsa Assembly Swears in Peter Akpe as New Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Tuesday, February 24, confirmed Pastor Peter Akpe as the state’s new Deputy Governor.

Akpe, who previously served as Governor Duoye Diri’s Chief of Staff, steps into the role following the sudden death of former Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed and died in his office on December 11, 2025.

The confirmation came during a plenary session of the Assembly, bringing closure to the state’s months-long search for a replacement.
