The Bauchi State Government has partnered with the Swiss Government to find lasting solutions to challenges associated with managing internally displaced persons (IDPs) and supporting host communities.
This collaboration is part of the state’s efforts to address humanitarian issues through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
According to a press statement released on Tuesday, the partnership aims to tackle key challenges facing IDPs and host communities while exploring ways to promote sustainable development.
The announcement followed an advocacy visit by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, to the Swiss Embassy in Abuja.
During the visit, Wanka highlighted Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration’s commitment to working with international governments, organizations, and partners to drive development across the state.
She noted that Bauchi State, located in the North East and regarded as one of the safest states in the region, has seen an influx of IDPs over the years.
This has been driven by insurgency, communal crises, and natural disasters in neighboring states.
The Commissioner explained that the growing IDP population has strained critical infrastructure such as healthcare, schools, water supply, and housing in the state.
“Under the leadership of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Bauchi State Government has made significant progress in improving infrastructure despite competing demands,” Wanka stated. “The Governor remains committed to enhancing the well-being of vulnerable groups through innovative and sustainable partnerships.”
Representatives of the Swiss Embassy praised the Bauchi State Government’s proactive efforts and expressed their willingness to collaborate with the state.
They emphasized the importance of fostering resilience, social integration, and sustainable livelihoods for affected communities.
The visit marked a key step in implementing solutions that align with Bauchi State’s focus on strategic partnerships to achieve humanitarian and developmental progress.
