Bauchi Govt Debunks PRP Claims, Says Gov Bala Never Considered Defection

The Bauchi State Government has dismissed as false and mischievous a statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the state alleging that Governor Bala Mohammed is not welcome to join the party.

In a rebuttal issued on Wednesday, the government described the claim as the baseless rant of an attention-seeker, noting that silence in the face of deliberate misinformation could be misconstrued as acceptance.

According to the statement, at no point has Governor Mohammed contemplated leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), let alone initiating any move to defect or reaching out to the PRP in Bauchi State. The government insisted that the assertion was entirely fabricated and existed only in the imagination of its authors.

It added that Governor Mohammed remains a key figure in efforts to reposition the PDP, particularly in the face of what it termed orchestrated crises by elements intent on steering Nigeria toward a one-party system.

His leadership qualities, the statement said, have been widely acknowledged, reflected in his electoral victories against the PRP in two closely contested polls.

The government emphasised that Bauchi State has emerged as a regional powerhouse due to an administration anchored on people-oriented governance, inclusive development, and the prioritisation of empowerment over political theatrics.

It explained that ongoing reforms—such as the restructuring of traditional institutions and devolution of powers are rooted in a broader vision of empowerment and social progress. The PRP’s inability to understand the benefits of such reforms, it said, exposes the party as progressive only in name but backward in character.

By issuing what it called an ill-informed and potentially misleading statement, the PRP had “revealed its true colours,” the government noted. It urged residents of Bauchi State to remain vigilant and avoid being swayed by “bellyaching ideologues” whose primary preoccupation is criticising every administration without offering constructive alternatives.

The statement reaffirmed that no distraction, whether political or otherwise, would deter Governor Mohammed from his steadfast commitment to the development and transformation of Bauchi State.

It also reiterated the governor’s constitutional right to freedom of association, adding that any future political decision he may take would be guided by conviction and the quest for stability, not by the “dubious machinations of political turncoats who trade in falsehood and malice.”
