Barcelona are reportedly preparing to lodge a complaint with UEFA over a controversial banner displayed by Paris Saint-Germain supporters before their 4-2 victory over the Spanish giants.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, citing Diario Sport, Barcelona were unhappy with the display unveiled by PSG fans ahead of the encounter, which featured a masked figure wielding a chainsaw and appearing to cut through the club’s crest.
The tifo also carried the French phrase “Massacre à la parisienne”, which translates to “Massacre in the Parisian style”. The display referenced the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and appeared to convey a threatening message directed at the Catalan club.
Barcelona reportedly considered the choreography inappropriate and are now planning to take the matter to UEFA, football’s European governing body, for consideration.
The controversy adds another dimension to an already heated encounter, which saw PSG claim a 4-2 victory over Barcelona. The French side’s supporters had used the pre-match display to set the tone for the clash, but the imagery has reportedly drawn objections from the visitors.
It remains unclear what action, if any, UEFA may take should Barcelona formally submit the complaint. The development is expected to draw further attention to the use of provocative fan displays at major European football matches.
