Barcelona is understood to have moved ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri after agreeing personal terms with the Spain international.
The 30 year old World Cup winner has decided on the Catalan giants after he grew impatient with Real’s inability to complete a deal.
The News Chronicle reports that Barcelona has assured the midfielder that they are willing to be quick in their conversation with City, who are expected to ask for £60million to £70million.
It is now for Barca to negotiate a deal with City after their talks with Rodri’s agent. The club is said to be open to a lower price or other forms of payment as they make every effort to stay within their spending limits.
Rodri was reportedly encouraged to choose Barcelona by several members of Spain’s national team who already play for the Catalan giants. Their influence is believed to have helped convince the midfielder to consider a move to the Camp Nou.
If completed, the deal would give Hansi Flick another world class option in midfield and strengthen Barcelona’s squad ahead of the new season.
