Barcelona Eyes Victor Osimhen as Long-Term Successor to Lewandowski

Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they prepare for life after Robert Lewandowski.

Club sources indicate that head coach Hansi Flick and the recruitment team are working on identifying a new marquee centre-forward, with Osimhen emerging as a strong contender.

The Catalan giants have been closely monitoring Osimhen’s performances since his move to Galatasaray, viewing him as a potential long-term solution to their attacking needs.

The 26-year-old forward, who has already scored 43 goals in 50 appearances for the Turkish side, continues to attract attention across Europe for his pace, physicality, and ruthless finishing.

Reports from Spain’s Mundo Deportivo suggest that Barcelona have added Osimhen to their striker shortlist, with plans to make formal contact in 2026.

The publication’s correspondent, Gabriel Sans, told Turkish outlet Radyospor that Barca are “keeping a close eye” on the Nigerian international, describing him as “definitely a player they want.”

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Barcelona are actively searching for Lewandowski’s replacement, revealing that there is a “concrete chance” the Polish striker could depart next summer when his contract expires.

Osimhen is one of several names on the club’s radar, alongside Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.

While Vlahovic could be available for free next year, Barca’s technical staff reportedly favour Osimhen due to his superior work rate and goal-scoring consistency.

Galatasaray, however, would demand more than the €75 million they paid Napoli to secure his signature, especially as his contract prevents him from joining any Italian side for the next two years — a clause that may benefit Barca by reducing competition.

The Nigerian striker, who helped Napoli clinch their first Serie A title in over three decades before his move to Turkey, has already proven his ability to perform at the highest level.

If Barcelona succeed in landing Osimhen, it would mark a major coup for the Spanish giants, who view him as the ideal successor to Lewandowski and a key piece in their next-generation rebuild.
