Fear gripped Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Sunday after suspected bandits launched a coordinated attack on the town’s police division and the palace of the Emir.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the attackers struck around 2:00 a.m. in a brazen overnight raid.
During the assault in Kaiama Local Government Area, the gunmen reportedly set part of the Emir’s palace on fire and whisked away 10 residents before escaping into the forest.
Police officers on duty, however, were able to repel the attack on the divisional headquarters, preventing what could have been a worse situation.
The incident has since triggered a massive security response. Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered a joint operation involving security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
The Emir’s palace in the Emir of Yashikira Palace was left partially burnt, leaving residents shaken and anxious as security operations continue in the area.
“These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens,” the police commissioner said, vowing a relentless pursuit of the perpetrators.
