Bandits Not Fighting Government But Masses -Shehu Sani

In a scathing indictment, former Senator Shehu Sani has exposed what he called the deceitful tactics employed by bandits and terrorists in Nigeria.

These groups, Sani revealed, often release videos in local languages, falsely claiming to be fighting against the government. He said they even go so far as to use scriptural phrases and texts to justify their heinous crimes.

Sani emphasized that the reality is far from their claims. The majority of their victims are the most vulnerable members of rural communities – the poorest of the poor, he said. These terrorists and bandits target and slaughter peasant farmers, passengers, and innocent civilians. They attack schools, mosques, and churches, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction in their wake, he added.

Sani stressed that anyone can fall victim to their brutality, even their own members. He described them as being “allergic to peace and dialogue” because they are “soaked in blood.” Their existence, he concluded, is rooted in violence, and they “live by the sword.”

“Whenever the Bandits or the terrorists post their videos in local languages, they make false claims of fighting the Government; they sometimes even use scriptural phrases or texts to justify their patented and unmitigated evil. While in reality, most of the people they kill, kidnap or rape are the poorest of the poor in our rural communities. They slaughter peasant farmers and passengers. They attack Schools, mosques and churches and shed the blood of the innocent. Anyone can be their victim and sometimes even their own,” he wrote on X.
