Abdu Lankai, an armed group leader pivotal to the enforcement of a local peace arrangement in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been killed.
The incident was revealed on Wednesday by Bakatsine, a security analyst who monitors conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest, via a post on X.
According to the report, Lankai was captured on Tuesday afternoon during a reconciliation meeting with rival commanders identified as Dogo Rabe and Black, both reportedly linked to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
Sources cited by Bakatsine said Lankai was later executed after his capture, raising serious concerns over the sustainability of the fragile peace in Jibia.
“Sources confirm the killing of Abdu Lankai, an armed group leader central to enforcing a local peace arrangement in Jibia LGA, Katsina State,” Bakatsine wrote.
“With Lankai gone, can Jibia’s fragile calm hold, or does this mark the collapse of the peace deal?”
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities in Katsina State have not issued an official statement on the incident.
