In the wee hours of Friday morning, tragedy struck in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State as gunmen stormed the family residence of Sule Gwamnati, a man in his middle age.
Sule Gwamnati was fatally shot during the attack, and his wife, Blessing, was abducted by the assailants.
Reports indicate that Sule Gwamnati was rushed to a hospital in Jos but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Luther Dafwang, a relative of Blessing, reached out to members of the Assemblies of God Church in Jos seeking prayers for the family, confirming the distressing incident.
The Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Kefas Mallai, also verified the attack, revealing that Sule Gwamnati was shot twice by the criminals who subsequently kidnapped his wife. Despite efforts, Blessing’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Local authorities, including security operatives in Bokkos, have been notified about the incident, with assurances that investigations are underway.
However, efforts to reach the Sector Commander of Operation Safe Haven in charge of Bokkos, Lt Col Isaac Indiorhwer, were unsuccessful.
Similarly, the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached as his phone was switched off.
The incident adds to a series of criminal activities plaguing Bokkos LGA and its neighboring communities, with reports of increased attacks resulting in loss of lives and property destruction.
The community remains on edge as security measures are being heightened to address the escalating situation.
