The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the death of five persons, including two officers, following a violent attack by suspected bandits in Yarkatsina Laka community.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Gusau by the command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, who said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Bello, revealed the incident during a condolence visit to the affected area.
According to Bello, the attack occurred on Tuesday evening when over 50 armed bandits stormed the community at about 5:55 p.m. He explained that operatives of the Police Strike Unit swiftly engaged the assailants, resulting in the killing of 11 bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
He noted that in the course of the gun duel, two police officers and three civilians lost their lives, while another officer sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The police commissioner expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and residents of the community, describing the incident as tragic.
He also reassured the public of the command’s determination to reinforce security measures and restore peace in the area, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations.
