Bandits Kill 2, Abduct 26 in Kaduna Communities

Bandits have killed two people, injured one, and abducted 26 others during attacks on communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS) disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Yunusa Shehu.

Shehu said the attacks occurred in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities, with the assailants also rustling cattle belonging to residents.

According to him, the bandits attacked Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District almost simultaneously in the early hours of Monday.

He said two residents, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed in Tunburku, while 26 others were abducted in Tudun Amada.

Another resident, Ayyuba Usman, was injured during the attacks, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m.

Shehu said the bandits had earlier invaded Kura in Danmahawayi District at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, where they rustled cattle belonging to residents.

He said the number of cattle initially reported stolen was between 15 and 17, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish the exact number.

The assailants also invaded Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District during the night and rustled cattle before security personnel mobilized to the area.

Following intelligence on the movement of the bandits and the stolen cattle, KadVS personnel launched a pursuit operation to recover the animals.

Shehu said the operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the cattle and flee.

A security source told NAN that 19 cattle were subsequently recovered from the bandits at about midnight on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The operation was supervised by the KadVS Sector Coordinator in Giwa Local Government Area, who led the personnel during the recovery exercise.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, said he would call back after obtaining further details on the attacks.

However, as of the time of filing this report, Hassan had yet to provide further clarification.
