Veteran Nigerian music singer, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has found himself at the centre of public outrage following controversial remarks he made on a podcast, where he claimed that men are not biologically wired to remain sexually exclusive to one woman.
The comment, made during an episode of the 234 Mzansi Podcast, hosted by Nedu Wazobia, has since gone viral.
“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman. A man can love one woman die, but it’s impossible for a man to sexually be with only one woman. It’s the biology of man,” 2Baba said in the episode aired on Monday, July 1, 2025.
Speaking to a TNC Correspondent in Abuja, a 25-year-old entrepreneur, said:
“It’s an unfortunate situation with Nigerian men. The fact that people still think like that in 2025 is pathetic.”
Another respondent, Donald, expressed his disapproval while acknowledging it was a usual societal issue:
“It’s a sad reality that many men believe they’re not wired for one woman. Personally, I can’t imagine cheating on my wife, but I can’t say the same for some of my friends.”
Following the backlash, 2Baba posted an apology video via his Instagram page on the night of Tuesday, July 2, 2025, in which he expressed regret for his choice of words and the public hurt it caused.
“I know I f**ked up with what I said… I know I’m going to get cancelled because of it,” he said.
“I apologise to my fans and most importantly, my wife, the love of my life, Natasha, and also my kids. I’m terribly sorry. That’s not who I am.”
In the nearly four-minute video, the 49-year-old singer admitted his statement was “unlegendary” and acknowledged that he had expressed himself poorly.
“This is not me… I’m terribly sorry for allowing myself to get to that place. I own up to my mistakes,” he added.
During the podcast, 2Baba also confirmed that his marriage to Nollywood actress Annie Idibia had ended.
“We have our understanding… it just wasn’t working anymore, that’s the simple truth,” he said, urging couples to be honest about when a relationship stops working.
He added:
“Many people have gone to their graves living in bondage. People should stop staying in unhappy marriages just because of public pressure.”
Despite the separation, he praised all the women in his life, including Annie and the mothers of his children, calling them “amazing” and unique in their own ways.
In his apology, 2Baba openly appreciated his current partner, Natasha Osawaru, describing her as “amazing, smart, and wonderful.”
“She doesn’t deserve to be dragged like this… neither do my kids. They’re beautiful young people. I don’t deserve this kind of thing I have to deal with,” he said.
He also stated:
“If any woman disrespects me or does rubbish, I will walk away from her.”
As of press time, the apology video has gained over 1.2 million views and close to 50,000 comments.
