Baba Stresses Patience and Hard Work in Achieving Music Success

Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, also known as 2Baba, has said that he remains important in the music scene despite the rise of new Afrobeats artists.

The ‘African Queen’ singer emphasized that his efforts, along with those of his peers, helped elevate Afrobeats to its current popularity.

In a recent interview with AFRIMMA, he advised young artists to be patient and not overly ambitious.

2Baba pointed to Burna Boy as an example, explaining that Burna Boy started by selling out small venues and gradually built a strong fan base before moving on to larger arenas and stadiums.

He said, “Burna Boy sells out Madison Square Garden, and some [other artists] think they are on the same level. But that’s unrealistic.

“Burna Boy went through a long process to get where he is. He didn’t just wake up and sell out Madison Square Garden; it took a lot of time and effort.

“He started with small venues and built a large following from there. And you can see the results now. We played a big part in that process too [laughs].

“But that doesn’t mean I’m not still relevant. I’m still here making good music.”
