Aviation workers protest against FG’s plans to concession four major airports

Aviation Workers at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport MAKIA Monday morning, staged a peaceful protest over moves by the Federal Government to concession four major airports in Nigeria.
The plans it was gathered, also include the immediate transfer of staff of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) staff from 2014 to contributory pension scheme.
The affected airports include MAKIA, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and Port Harcourt International Airport.
During the protest at the airport premises,  the workers were seen carrying placards with various inscription such as “Concession Will Lead to Job Loss”, “Airport Concession a Crime Against Nigeria” among others.
Addressing Newsmen on behalf of the aviation workers, the Chairman, Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN), Ismailla Muhammed Alkali described the concession’s move as suicide, hence urging the relevant authorities to drop the idea.
According to him, the anticipated risks which the workers face as a result of the concession is enormous and the government should consider their interest and shelve the plans.
“What we are saying is that we don’t subscribe to the plans by the Federal Government. It does not take into consideration, the interest of Nigerians who are staff at the airports.
We are not even sure who the airports will be concessioned to and the various rumours we are hearing is not palatable. That is why we are protesting,” Alkali said.
