Aura V, 8, Breaks Blue Ivy Carter’s Record as Youngest Grammy Winner

Aura V, an eight-year-old musician, has become the youngest individually named Grammy Award winner in history after winning Best Children’s Music Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Aura V won the award alongside her father, Fyütch (real name Harold Simmons II), for their joint album Harmony. The win was announced during the 68th annual Grammy ceremony organised by the Recording Academy.

At just 8 years old, Aura V overtook Blue Ivy Carter, who was 9 when she won a Grammy in 2021 as a featured artist on BROWN SKIN GIRL, which received the award for Best Music Video.

Because Aura V was individually credited by name on the winning album, the Recording Academy confirmed that she now holds the official record as the youngest Grammy winner.

During the acceptance speech, Fyütch spoke on the role of children’s music in education and social development. He said:

“Children’s music is more than a genre; it is an intention of artists who have dedicated our crafts to educating, entreating and empowering the next generation,” he said.

“Any time we vote against feeding, protecting, clothing and educating our kids, we are condemning our collective future.”

He described children’s music as a form of social responsibility, adding:

“This is activism. This is revolution. Modeling harmony, community and self-love.”

Aura V also addressed the audience briefly, offering congratulations to other winners.

“Shout-out to Laufey,” she said. “I just saw her on the red carpet, and I got to talk to her. I know she just won a Grammy too, so congratulations.”

Before the ceremony, Fyütch had acknowledged the existing record held by the Carter family.

“Shout-out to Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Blue Ivy,” he told Baltimore-based station WMAR. But we’re coming for that record.”

Fyütch, a Maryland-based artist and former teacher, began focusing on children’s music in 2021. He said Harmony grew out of making music at home with his daughter.

“We’re a musical family,” he said in an earlier interview. “My dad plays on the album. My grandpa was a trumpeter in the Army. Passing that legacy to her and receiving this recognition is very meaningful.”

According to Fyütch, the project started with a single song before expanding into a full album after several tracks gained attention online.

“We started shooting videos, they went viral, and before we knew it, we had enough songs to make a full album,” he said.

Following the awards ceremony, Aura V is expected to return to school, where she is currently in third grade, while her father continues his music career. However, their joint win has already secured their place in Grammy history.
