ASUU NSUK Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unimplemented Agreements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Branch, has declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike, effective Monday, August 10, 2026.

The union announced the decision at a press conference in Keffi, Nasarawa State, following a branch congress held on Monday to deliberate on what it described as the continued non implementation of the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues affecting academic staff of the university.

According to the union, it had exhausted several avenues of dialogue and engagement with relevant authorities without achieving satisfactory implementation of the agreement or resolving the outstanding local issues.

The branch said it had earlier sought and obtained approval from the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU before proceeding with the industrial action.

Explaining the rationale for the strike, the union said agreements freely reached by the parties must be respected, implemented and honoured.

“Dialogue without implementation cannot continue indefinitely,” the union stated, stressing that continued discussions without concrete action could no longer guarantee the resolution of the issues.

ASUU NSUK called on the Federal Government, Nasarawa State Government, the Governing Council and management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to urgently intervene and take concrete steps towards resolving the issues that led to the strike.

The union, however, said it remained committed to genuine, meaningful and result oriented dialogue, adding that the industrial action could be suspended once there was demonstrable commitment and concrete action towards implementing the agreements and resolving the outstanding local matters.

The union also expressed regret over the inconvenience the strike might cause students, parents and other stakeholders of the university.

It maintained that the responsibility for restoring industrial harmony rested on the urgent resolution of the issues that necessitated the industrial action.

“We did not choose to strike. The failure to implement agreements has left us with no reasonable alternative. We remain ready for genuine dialogue, but dialogue must produce implementation,” the union said.

The statement was signed by Comrade Dr. Zubairu Abdulmumini Loko, Chairperson of ASUU, NSUK Branch.

The development is expected to affect academic activities at the university unless an agreement is reached between the union and the relevant authorities.
