Asisat Oshoala Makes History for Bay FC in NWSL Debut

Asisat Oshoala has set a new record once again, this time by scoring the first-ever goal for the new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise, Bay FC.

The goal, which came in the 17th minute, secured the team’s 1-0 victory against Angel FC. The opportunity was created by teammate Tess Boade, with Oshoala clinically dispatching the ball into the top right corner to secure the goal.

In a post-match statement, Oshoala expressed her pride in contributing to Bay FC’s legacy from the onset, also underlining her commitment to the team’s success.

Oshoala was signed from Barcelona during the off-season, and her arrival at Bay FC was met with high expectations, considering her career.

During her time with Barcelona, Oshoala had an impressive record, scoring 117 goals and winning 14 trophies in five years, highlighting her attacking prowess and contribution to her former team’s success.

As the first African nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or and the first Nigerian to score in three Women’s World Cups, Oshoala’s pedigree has been evident on the field of play.

The contract extension is set to last until 2026. Bay FC hopes Oshoala continues her impressive goal-scoring to make a mark in the NWSL.
