Asake has reached a new Spotify milestone, joining a small group of Nigerian artists whose songs have crossed 100 million streams across three different projects.
The achievement places him alongside Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, and Omah Lay.
Two records helped push Asake into that group. “Joha,” which has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, makes it the 88th Nigerian song to reach that mark on the platform and the seventh song in Asake’s catalog to cross the threshold, according to Tooxclusive. The single is part of his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe.
“Lonely At The Top,” from his album “Work of Art,” is the other record cited. Tracking site lists the song’s Spotify play count at 147,263,888 since its release on June 15, 2023. The song has also drawn attention beyond Spotify: it became the first song in Audiomack’s history to cross 100 million streams and won Song of the Year at the 17th Headies Awards. Separately, TurnTable Charts has credited it with over 128 million on-demand streams in Nigeria, making it the most-streamed song in the country’s history.
The milestone follows other recent streaming benchmarks for Asake. On June 19, his song “M$NEY” surpassed 300 million Spotify streams. Two days later, “Real EP, Vol. 1,” his joint project with Wizkid, passed 150 million streams, becoming the fifth project linked to the two artists to reach that figure, per Album Talks.
The pair’s collaborations have continued to register milestones elsewhere too. Their track “MMS” surpassed 100 million Spotify streams, making it Asake’s eighth and Wizkid’s 17th song to reach that figure across all credits on the platform. “MMS” is currently the most-streamed track from Asake’s album “Lungu Boy,” released August 8, 2024.
Asake also performed unreleased music on Sunday, June 21, at a Spotify x Asake show in London, a clip of which drew almost a million views on X.
